Tooth release new single ‘Medicine’

The track that stood out when I caught Tooth in Bristol last year has finally landed on streaming services. Following last month’s debut single ‘Age of Innocence’, the London four-piece return with ‘Medicine’, a more measured but equally compelling follow-up from a band we tipped in our Ones To Watch list earlier this year. Released via Soil To The Sun Recordings and produced by Kev Jones (Wunderhorse), the track trades some of the debut’s frantic energy for a sound that feels a little more focused and melodic.

‘Medicine’ still carries the band’s scrappy alternative edge, but there’s a clear sense of restraint here. Frontman Tom Pollock’s vocal sits confidently above the mix, steering the song through its quieter moments before it swells outward. Speaking about the track, Pollock said the band ‘wanted to take the chaos of Sonic Youth but dilute it with a bit more structure and melody, and make it catchier,’ with the lyrics forming around what he describes as ‘a love song about an incessant lust for someone.’

Despite this only being Tooth’s second official release, the band already carry themselves with the confidence of something far more established. With festival appearances at The Great Escape and Dot To Dot coming up, alongside a run of shows including a support slot with Keo in Birmingham tonight, it feels like the momentum behind Tooth is only just beginning.
